Artem Kaplan, MD, PhD

Board-Certified Neurologist and Pain Management Specialist

Board-Certified Neurologist and Pain Management Specialist

Meet Dr. Kaplan

Dr. Kaplan | Medical Director, New York Neurology Institute, is a board-certified neurologist and pain management specialist with extensive expertise in disorders of the brain, nerves, and pain systems.

At NYNA he provides comprehensive, science-driven care for patients with a full range of neurological disorders, including all headache types, chronic neck pain, oromandibular (jaw) pain,  facial pain syndromes, dizziness, imbalance, peripheral neuropathy and nerve injury, neuropathic pain syndromes, dysautonomia (including POTS), small fiber neuropathy, chronic fatigue syndrome, and post-infectious neurological conditions, such as Long-COVID, tremor, dystonia and other movement disorders, neurocognitive disorders, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Kaplan has particular interest in the neurological complications of hypermobility spectrum disorders and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS). His diagnostic approach combines advanced neurophysiological testing, imaging, and autonomic function assessment to uncover the neurological underpinnings of pain, fatigue, and autonomic dysfunction—enabling more targeted and effective management for these complex conditions.

Dr. Kaplan provides patient-centered care that emphasizes collaboration across disciplines, partnering with experts in internal medicine, surgery, and functional medicine. He treats patients with complex neurological and chronic conditions involving multiple body systems, integrating advanced diagnostics with compassionate, whole-person care. By recognizing the value of both traditional and integrative approaches, Dr. Kaplan aims to improve long-term health outcomes and enhance quality of life.

As a key member of the NYNA Headache and Pain Treatment Center, Dr. Kaplan provides expert diagnosis and comprehensive multimodal treatment for migraine and all other headache types, facial pain, trigeminal neuralgia, TMJ disorders, and post-traumatic pain syndromes.

His extensive experience in chemodenervation therapies ( e.g. Botox®) for chronic migraine, dystonia, hemifacial spasm, spasticity, and neuropathic pain was honed during his tenure in the Movement Disorders Division at Columbia University Medical Center. There, he developed tailored Botox treatment paradigms and refined ultrasound- and EMG-guided injection techniques that continue to shape his precise, patient-specific approach to pain and neuromuscular care.

Deeply committed to his patients, Dr. Kaplan believes that effective care for complex disorders requires not only scientific expertise but also compassion, trust, and long-term partnership. His practice reflects a holistic approach where advanced medicine and meaningful connection work together to improve quality of life.

Research and Leadership

Dr. Kaplan serves as the Medical Director of the New York Neurology Institute and as Principal Investigator on multiple ongoing clinical trials in Alzheimer’s disease, migraine, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, and other movement disorders. He has published peer-reviewed research, presented at national and international neurology conferences.
